Spring is undoubtedly my favourite time of the year. There's something so exhilarating about this season and all the change it brings. I love the lighter, brighter days and the fresh energy which comes with it. This feeling was something I really wanted to capture in my latest fabric collection for Lewis and Irene, 'Joys of Spring.' I also wanted this to be reflected throughout the design process including in the show cards, quilts and dresses made.

Again I've been lucky enough to work with the lovely Sally Ablett and as always, she has exceeded all of my expectations. Using flying geese to make striking star and diamond blocks, bordered with a pretty miniature diamond border, this quilt is one which will make a statement on any chair, sofa or even garden bench!

Sally has designed this quilt pattern in three different colour ways for you to choose from. Or why not make all three? It's the perfect excuse to subtly change the look of a room or swap one throw out while the other gets cleaned. Personally I always really struggle to choose which quilt Sally should make up to demonstrate the pattern and this time was no exception. Whether you're a pastel girl at heart or prefer bright, bold hues, Sally has you covered. Eventually after much deliberating we chose to make colour number 1, in the pastels and it really is beautiful.

Measuring 48" x 48", this is throw is a fantastic size to snuggle under with a good book and cup of tea as the evenings draw out, or even to sit under in the garden catching up on those long awaited rays of sunshine. The size of the throw isn't too daunting either and perfect if you were looking for a smaller sized quilt project as the evenings get lighter.

Each quilt colourway has a slightly different personality allowing them to work individually or as a collection. The clever use of white as a background (or a white on white as we have used) allows even the prettiest of pastels to 'pop.' The whole design feels balanced and Sally's use of borders allows your eye to be comfortably be drawn outward. Even in the brightest colourway, nothing distracts the eye or jumps out at you which is all part of Sally's magic.

This quilt was quilted by the Joy Harber in a really pretty floral design. She always works hard to compliment Sally's quilts by taking elements of the motifs in the quilts which really enhance the final quilt.
