When Sally designs a quilt, I always feel like she captures the essence of my collections. Every quilt feels unique to the narrative, from the quantity of each fabric used, the scale and composition of the blocks to the final stitched long arm quilting design, everything feels purposeful and considered. If you look closely, you will never see a point that doesn't match or a block that doesn't sit flush. She really is a master of her craft. Sally's ability to translate fabrics and their story into a physical product is one of the reasons I love working with her, and yet again she has worked her magic without exception.

The 'Evenfall' quilt really captures the ethereal feeling which I was trying to convey with the collection. In this quilt I can see the transition from the soft daylight into the darkness of evening. The pale grey's, pink's and lilac's work well with the white background to emulate the soft glow of twilight while the sparing use of the deep purple and midnight blue doesn't over complicate the design. The use of the darker fabrics in the star blocks pop against the background while the star motif itself is reminiscent of the night sky.

Sally has used a combination of ten fabrics from my 'Evenfall' quilting cotton collection for Lewis and Irene, incorporating a range of lights, mediums and darks. We used a very soft grey blender for the background fabric, but you can also use a white fabric which would also be just as striking. The use of the pale background gives the quilt a very modern feel, allowing the design not to feel over complicated and showcases the 'Evenfall' fabrics.

We chose to make a 54" x 66" throw for this collection, however as with most of Sally's designs, you could easily expand it by making more blocks and extending it to the length and width you require. This is definitely a 'take your time' quilt as it isn't simply a case of just joining blocks as parts of the sashing connect and interlock to makes up other blocks. While it is one to spend a few extra moments checking your layout's, it is definitely worth the effort.

This particular quilt was long arm quilted by the lovely Joy Harber from Patchwork Joy. She has chosen a floral and leaf motif which compliments the fabrics beautifully.
