The design process when creating a collection is never linear as once I have finished 'designing,' the project isn't actually finished by any means. There are still colour alterations with the mill, photographing the finished fabrics, marketing, social media, making up products from the fabrics, the list is endless. So in a really lovely way it feels like just the start of bringing something to life, which is one of the reasons why I love writing these blog posts. It allows me to have a little bit of a 'pinch me' moment when I sit down to write about a collection. It's really lovely to revisit my inspiration and reflect on the moment of conception of a project as it's so easy to get lost in all of the other beautiful stages of the process. So without further a-do I'm delighted to announce my ninth collection 'Evenfall' in collaboration with Lewis and Irene will be available from November 2024.
This collection has been cultivating in the back of my mind for a very long time. I love the idea of the transitional period between light and dark, when daytime turns into night and the magic which happens in between. The colours of the day softening into the darkness of the evening, the landscape as we know it in the day light altering as if any on lookers were entering an enchanted land were a huge inspiration in this collection. I used pale greys, dusky pinks, dark periwinkles, and deep purple through to midnight blue to encapsulate this. I envisioned flowers which only come out at night blooming to create a completely different garden to the one we are used to seeing, while beautiful moths dance to a silent orchestra.
As always with each range of fabrics which I design, I have created a poem to encapsulate the collection. The poem starts each verse with the word ‘Even’ from the title ‘Evenfall.’ I hope it enchants you as much as it has me.
Even as darkness comes out to play,
Twilight grips tightly to the day.
Into evening bright colours fade,
The landscape altered and re-made.
Even though the half-moon hides,
Awaiting his star-spangled brides.
Night blooms anticipate the pale moon glow,
Eager to put on their show.
Even when day flowers drift off to sleep,
The night garden awakens as shadows grow deep.
Producing a scent to allure and entrance,
The twilight orchestra begins the dance.
Moths flutter and flit to the call,
To experience the magic of Evenfall.
You can find ‘Evenfall’ in all good fabric shops from November 2024. For a sneak preview of the full collection just click HERE.
